Former Mayor of Guildford and fellow County Councillor Mike Nevins passed away in May after a long battle against cancer. Mike was also a member of the Planning & Regulatory Committee and one of my earliest recollections of that committee was an exuberant opposition he made to works being undertaken by an operator in his division on behalf of his residents. Mike was indeed a popular councillor; friendly, affable and capable and he will be sorely missed by the County Council in general and the committee in particular.
As a mark of respect, we have deferred this month's Planning & Regulatory Committee since it clashes with Mike's memorial in Guildford, this Thursday. I shall be in attendance along with many of Mike's friends and colleagues from the county.
He will be sadly missed.
