Update - Wall at Whitmoor Road, Bagshot
Friday 9th July
The combined effort of local councillors continues to urge the owner of the now infamous Whitmoor Road/Elizabeth Avenue Wall to do something about the broken structure.
For years now, questions over ownership and responsibility have stalled any repair work to the wall which is an eyesore as much as it is potentially hazardous. However, I and other Bagshot Councillors have never let the matter rest and so I was delighted to hear from our Highways Team last week that legal communication has been received regards a claim, which means that specification, design and construction may now be advanced.
A good effort from all involved. I look forward to seeing the new wall in place sometime soon.

Interesting that Councillor Mcleod says that he has been working hard with other local councillors. Perhaps he could tell us all precisely what he's done since being elected, and what the previous county councillor on this matter?
ReplyDeleteMany months' later, and Cllr McLeod remains totally silent. Does he do ANYTHING for the people of Bagshot? He certainly hasn't met with the local residents relating to this wall. Time for him to go.
ReplyDeleteThanks anonymous.
DeleteAs you may well know, the wall is not owned by the county council. It is owned by the developer, now Crest Homes. As such it is difficult for the Council to spend money on it.
Imagine for example, the precedent that would be set if the County Council started repairing other private walls all over Surrey.
County officers have nonetheless worked to apply pressure to the developer in order to remedy this long standing issue. I myself have spoken to former colleagues who now work at the developer to see whether further pressure might be applied.
Even this very week, I have again taken our highways engineers to the site to attempt to see if anything can be done by the authority to assist.
The jury is still out, but rest assured, work continues.
