Red Road in the Wet

Tuesday 9th June.

My driving record has improved in recent years - my first few years of driving were frankly appalling - but I've always appreciated the difference between driving in dry conditions and driving in the wet.

Not all of us are as well versed.

The police closed Red Road today so that the fire and rescue services could cut somebody out of a car that had skidded into the SPA roadside woodland at the double bends.
Two things come to mind.
Firstly how do people forget what wet and slippery roads are like to drive on?
And secondly, its more evidence in the ever increasing stack that proves it is time again to press for the speed limit reduction at this location.

  2. The speed limit should NOT be reduced on the Red Road! People who drive stupidly in these conditions should be given tickets if they do crash or do get seen by the police. But also sometimes these accidents do happen at 40 mph.
As for dry conditions, most modern car can handle the bends at 60 mph anyway. Also if you do reduce it to 40, that means you will get people who cause accident because they are going 30. Has anyone actually considered the other side to this? I thought we were conservatives and not prone to knee jerk reactions? So blame has got to be portioned on the individual instead of the state all the time! I am sorry to say this, but you can't cover people in cotton wool all the time, there are going to be deaths on Surrey's road even if the speed limit is 20 mph everywhere. As for the red road, I don't think there has been a death on there for sometime, although I maybe wrong. As for enforcement, the police are overstretched in Surrey and there no where really to pull people over! Speed cameras would cause more accidents than there are now. I just don't see the point!
