Councillor, Councillor, Councillor.

Saturday 19th December

While I had managed to get the lion's share of my Christmas shopping done online or else in Kingston after one of last week's meetings, I managed to get into Camberley on Saturday in order to mop up the outstanding.

Part of the reason I enjoy shopping in Camberley during the festive period is how I manage to bump into lots of old faces - seemingly everyone ventures into the town centre on the last Saturday before Christmas! As it happened, I bumped into an old pal, and as we adjourned to the nearest pub to catch up, I brought him up to speed with the political career that I had endeavoured upon.

Clearly, in spite my Jon Snow-like explanation, the fact that I wear three different hats seemed to confuse him and it struck me that if it confused him, then it might too confuse readers of this blog.
So, herewith the full 'triple-hatted' explanation:

Parish.
In May 2007, I was returned as a member of the Windlesham Parish Council. This means that I am one of the Councillors who represent the electors of Lightwater on that Council. In particular, I am the member for Lightwater West.
This part of the world is represented at the Borough by Cllr Tim Dodds and at the County Council by Mrs Lavina Sealy CC.

Borough.
In the same election, May 2007, I was returned as a member of Surrey Heath Borough Council. As I stood as a West End candidate, this means that I am one of the Councillors who represent the electors of West End at that Council.
Strictly speaking I must leave matters Borough that concern Lightwater to my fellow Councillors, Cllr Tim Dodds, Cllr Surinder Singh Gandhum, and Cllr Ian Bell.
West End is represented at the County by Mrs Lavina Sealy CC.

County
In the County Elections of 2009, I was returned as a member of Surrey County Council. I therefore represent 'division 58' or 'Windlesham, Bagshot and Lightater East'. But here is where it begins to become a little complicated. Owing to the borders installed by the Electoral Commission, Lavinia represents Lightwater West, which is next to Lightwater East. The dividing line betwixt our divisions is MacDonald Road. Where I live.

In principle this means that we all have our respective areas of responsibility, but in practice, we all work together and work out suitable responsibilities between us.

I hope that has cleared matters up a little.

NOTE: Strictly speaking, this blog was expressly established with the 'Three Villages' of Windlesham Bagshot and Lightwater (East) in mind. However, I have received comment about the lack of a West End flavour given my responsibilities further south. Therefore, given this platform and the fact that West End is closely linked with our 'Three Villages', I shall begin to feed in soem West End stories, starting in the New Year.

Merry Christmas!
