Remembrance

Wednesday 11th November

This month's Planning & Regulatory Committee was duly cut short so that members and officers could join the Chairman and guests for the Remembrance Day Service at County Hall's 'Great Hall'.

Words are perhaps irrelevant to describe the proceedings or comment on what such services represent. Ever since I was fortunate enough to attend a trip to the First World War battlefields during what used to be called 'The Fifth Form', I have always found such services to have an even greater poignancy while being both at once stirring and moving. There is something extremely sobering in viewing - and to forever recollect - a scene where literally hundreds of thousands of gravestones span as far at the eye can see.

We will remember them.
