Canvassing in Windlesham

Saturday, 29th March 2009

Had a successful morning canvassing in Windlesham. Many thanks to all of you who turned out to help. We spent a lot of time talking to people on the doorstep about a whole range of local issues.

There was quite a lot of concern about speeding through the village and littering seems to be a problem - I will be following that one up to work out if the issue is due to an insufficient number of bins, lack of street cleaning or something else.

There were also a number of individual issues that came up that I will be following up with the Borough Council in the next few days.

Backlash Against Labour

So many people, that I and others talked to today, weren't speaking about local issues at all but instead were venting their frustrations with the Government. Many people now are really angry with the Labour Government and the announcements this week that the country is now £1Trillion pounds in debt (thats £1,000,000,000,000 !) seems to have made quite an impression on people - they simply cannot believe that they have got us into this appalling situation.

I get the feeling that we may see a high-turnout for the elections in June - I think people just want to send a clear message to the Government that they are very, very unhappy with them.
