Red, White & Blue

Friday 8th June

One can hardly have failed to notice the erection of several flags in Bagshot ahead of last weekend's Jubilee celebrations. In order to get into the spirit of both the Jubilee and the Olympics, the Bagshot Business Association elected to organise this patriotic display, with all but one of the traders participating. While some have commented that Bagshot now looks a little bit 'American', I think that the overall effect has been fantastic - and the BBA have agreed to keep the flags flying until the end of the Para-olympics in August. Interestingly, a number of people I know from miles away in Surrey have since complimented Bagshot on the display and are now seeking to do the same in their villages.

Bagshot was the focus of my family's Jubilee celebrations on the Sunday of the Jubilee weekend as we attended the street party alongside a great host of Surrey Heath residents, including the past mayor, Cllr John May, above. Regrettably, the weather closed in and decided to attempt to ensure that the day was a complete washout but I'm delighted to report that while the rain certainly dampened the clothes of the revellers, it certainly didn't dampen their spirits. I should just like to say thank you and well done to all who organised & participated in the street party celebrations; and roll on next years 'Coronation' party!
